Insert a barcode or label into a document

If you are working with a Microsoft Office Word 2007, Microsoft Office Excel 2007, or Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 document that is saved to a library on a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 site where a Barcode or Label policy is in effect as part of an information management policy, you may be required to insert a barcode or label into your Microsoft Office document when you edit it.

What do you want to do?

Insert a barcode into a document

When a site administrator or list owner configures a Barcode policy for a list or library, barcodes are automatically generated on the server for the items or documents in that list or library when they are uploaded or edited. Depending upon how a Barcode policy is configured, users may also be required to insert barcode images into documents in a library.

  1. Open the library that contains the document into which you want to insert a barcode.
  2. Point to the document you want, click the arrow that appears, and then click Edit in Microsoft Office Program Name, where Program Name is the name of the program in which the document can be edited, for example, Edit in Microsoft Office Word.
  3. Place your cursor in the location in the document where you want to insert the barcode.
  4. On the Insert tab, in the Barcode group, click Barcode.

Note    The Barcode command appears on the Insert tab only if a Barcode policy is in effect for a server document.

  5. Click the Microsoft Office ButtonButton image, and then click Save to save your changes.
